Hello! I’m glad you’ve stumbled across my page! Ideally you’ll browse some of my posts and get a feel for Quincy University and what it might be able to do for you.
My name is Colleen Taylor and I’m currently a Senior Communications major at Quincy University, concentrating in Public Relations and Professional Communications and minoring in Graphic Design. The Communications program here is phenomenal and after reading a little bit about it on this blog, I’m hoping you’ll come to agree.
I came across Quincy University my senior year of high school when they sent me some mail about an academic scholarship I was eligible for. Honestly, I never thought I would end up here, but I am so glad I did. Coming from Chicago the idea of going to central Illinois for any reason did not sound appealing, but I decided to give it a try and ended up loving the school and loving the teachers. It’s is a great size to get to know people, and your teachers give you personal attention that helps you really succeed. Without it, I never would have been able to get the two internships that I’ve had since starting at QU. Trust me, it’s a great place to be and after reading this blog I’m sure you’ll feel the same.
So, I guess you might be wondering just who the heck I am and why I’m writing this random blog about a random school. To start, here’s a little bit about myself:
Major: Communications with a concentration in Public Relations and Professional Communications (and a minor in Graphic Design)
Hometown: Park Ridge, IL (right outside of Chicago)
Siblings: I have two siblings- one 16 year old brother and a 14 year old sister. Yeah, that’s always a lot of fun when I go home.
Future Plans: I couldn’t even begin to tell you. Graduate school is a possibility as well as just getting a job somewhere- possibly in Quincy or possibly in Chicago or maybe even elsewhere. I’m not really picky. Yeah, so as you can tell, I may know what I’m doing right now but as far as the future… I’ll come to that when it gets closer (Although Dr. John, one of the communication professors, frequently stops me after class and in the hallway to ask if I plan on going to grad school and where).
Activities: Last year I was the secretary for Circle K International, which is a service organization, set up through Kiwanis for college students. This upcoming year I’m going to be the Vice President. I am also a member of Lambda Pi Eta, the communications honors society, which I was the treasurer for last year. This past summer I was a part of Orientation Team which basically means that I was part of the group that helps new students during their RAP session (basically it’s just the day when they sign up for classes, get a tour of the school, etc) as well as during Orientation Week. Next year I’ll serve as a representative in Student Senate as well.
I guess that’s all pretty much the basics. If you ever have any other questions, as always, feel free to e-mail me or leave a comment.
